In Search Marketing summit, Sydney, Gary lllyes (Google) announced that a mobile friendly algorithm will be introduced to up rank the mobile page speed factor so that search engine can find the mobile pages prior to desktop pages.
This report was published by Jennifer Slegg, who confirmed this news and as per her, this service is not far away now.
The main issue is that most of the ranking parameters which are being used by Google are based on Desktop web pages, so if the speed of your desktop web page is faster than a mobile page then the search engine doesn’t hit your mobile ranking.
After the introduction of a mobile-friendly algorithm, the speed of mobile-specific page will the prime factor and it won’t rely on the desktop version.
In April 2010, the prime ranking factor was the page speed and in June 2013, this was considered as a negative factor by Matt Cuts. Now a year ago, mobile-specific page speed service was announced by Gary lllyes and as per him it is just a months away, but it is in the planning phase for now.
As per Google, it is quite logical that speed of page and other related factors to be mobile dependent, not desktop dependent.
Nowadays, myriads of tablets and smartphones are been introduced in the market, which has changed the style of accessing information. Millions of handset users are hitting the mobile pages to fetch the information every hour. This technology came into picture many years ago and still most of the companies are lacking behind in creating the mobile-friendly website.
As per the research, if the website is not developed specifically for mobile, then it will have low speed on tablet or smartphones. To overcome this problem and streamline the browsing process, Google has increased its efforts.
In the last several months, many of the search engines have tried to introduce this measure to up-rank the mobile page searches. The Google’s software engineer hinted in March, that mobile search was being used as a ranking signal in Google, and in few months it will be introduced in the market as a service.
Currently, there is no differentiation between the desktop and mobile page as per Google, but now after the introduction of this service, load time of mobile and desktop site will be under consideration and company who will do investment in terms of money and time to create the mobile friendly application will get rewarded and increased visibility on Google.
As per the current research, the mobile search engine traffic is dominating as compared to desktop traffic, so Google is trying hard to introduce several tools to give better search experience to mobile users.
As per the confirmation from Google, separate search index will be launched in their next update, but it still has issues like ranking signals are getting lost when converting parts from current desktop index to mobile one.
Apart from search engine optimization, Google has introduced a testing tool, which will check the compatibility of the website for mobile.
To accentuate the fact that the introduction of this service is a next step towards the future of mobile technology.
